Michael Capiraso, the former president and CEO of the NYRR, has always been passionate about running. He says that it helps keep his mind going and keep him productive throughout the day. Michael Capiraso also adds that it also helps him come up with great ideas and increases his creativity.

With that, it is no wonder he worked so hard to keep the sport going and thriving through his great work over at the NYRR (New York Road Runners) organization. During his tenure, the organization doubled its revenue to about 100 million dollars.

Making Strategic Partnerships

The organization was able to collaborate with several companies to provide its runners with an unforgettable experience. One of these many partnerships was with Tata Consulting Services (TCS), an enterprise that offers consulting and IT services.

The partnership made back in 2019 made it possible for runners and their supporters to track miles. So, the racers can modify their running times and allow the spectators to track their racers’ times.

It also came with the share tracking feature that makes it possible for racers to share links with their family and friends. And also has an augmented reality feature in the app that presents the racers with very fun and interactive features.

For example, it presents the racers with inspirational and congratulatory messages. And an added advantage of getting encouragement words from Shalane Flanagan, the TCS New York City Marathon Champion in 2017.

Building a Run Center

Michael Capiraso credits the achievement of this milestone to the great support of a fellow friend and predecessor, Mary Wittenberg, and the board. He says that building a run center is a huge milestone that one can’t achieve alone.

The run center was a great addition to the community as now they had a place where they could come to talk about running, share useful pointers, and learn more about the sport.

Besides that, they had the opportunity to purchase their gears from the New balance store nearby and get a chance to have run talks and go for history tours outside the establishment.

And to crown it all, the experiences were made available on several digital platforms; hence anyone could access them from the comfort of their homes worldwide. Source: https://www.bloomberg.com/profile/person/18867211
