Fiber and Sugar-A Winning Combination

Sugar is more than just a staple of a stocked pantry, it’s a staple in almost everyone’s diet. In this day and age, it’s almost impossible to find products that don’t have sugar in them somewhere on the ingredients list. In May, the Federal government said that in 2018, food nutrition labels would be required to list the amounts of added sugar. On the heels of this announcement, it brings into focus the question of just how bad is sugar for the human body? The New York Times-Well Blog recently published a Q & A article with scientist and experts to try and tackle that tough question.
According to the scientist, people should be less concerned about the type of sugar that is added to food but instead with the lack of fiber that would balance it out.

While three apples and a 16oz bottle of a sugary drink contain the same amount of sugar in grams, the key difference is the fiber. Soda obviously has none, while an apple has about 20% of the recommended daily fiber in it. Fiber helps you feel full faster so most people won’t end up eating 3 apples, but they can easily drink the whole bottle of soda. Fiber also slows down the time it takes for the sugar to find its way to the liver.
The general consensus among the experts is that moderation is the most important thing. For most healthy people, 6 teaspoons a day is an acceptable amount.

Evidence Shows a Low Sodium Diet May Not Be a Good Thing

If you have high blood pressure or are trying to watch your weight, then you have likely heard that you should limit your salt intake each day. But what if eating a diet that is low in sodium was actually less healthy than a diet higher in sodium than what is typically recommended?

A recent review of four separate studies on sodium intake in individuals with hypertension, as well as individuals without hypertension has found that a lower sodium diet may actually increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The studies include a total of 133,118 people who had participated in the original studies. What researchers found after looking at the wealth of data within the studies is that increased sodium intake did not increase the risk of death or adverse cardiovascular events.

Furthermore, the analysis showed that among individuals with high blood pressure, consuming more than 7 grams of sodium in a day increased the risk for adverse cardiovascular events for those with high blood pressure by 23 percent. While that may sound like the same information you have likely heard before, consider this. Among individuals with high blood pressure who consumed less than 3 grams of sodium per day, the increase in risk factors was 34 percent.

Both of these figured were in comparison to individuals who ate 4-5 grams of sodium per day. Current sodium guidelines suggest that we should eat no more than 2.3 grams of sodium in a single day in order to lower the risk for cardiovascular issues such as stroke, hypertension and death.

While it still holds true that a diet lower in sodium may lower blood pressure, there are other health factors that must be looked at in order to determine if a lower sodium diet is beneficial for your health or if it is harmful.

New Nutrition Labels Rolling Out

As reported in a recent article for BuzzFeed, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has just announced that the newly updated requirements for nutrition labels are now being implemented. The labels are a response to demands from the public for more clarity in how portions are described in food labels.

A major change to the layout of the new food labels will be that added sugars will be listed separately. After major public backlash over the sugar phenomenon, the government is responding by requiring more transparency in reporting on food labels from manufacturers. In addition to the separately listed added sugars, the new food labels will also display the number of calories in a bigger font, which should make that fact easier to notice for consumers. The serving sizes of foods have also been changed to require that manufacturers list a more reasonable amount of the food that the average person actually eats in one sitting. This will make counting calories and nutrients easier for people who do not consume all of the food item at a time. One thing that will no longer be listed on food labels is calories from fat.

The timeline for the required use of the new food labels is quickly approaching. The largest food manufacturers will be required to comply with the new label requirements by July 26, 2018. Smaller food manufacturers that sell less than $10 million in food each year will have until 2019 to phase in the new food label requirements.

Taking Care of Your Puppy and New BFF

It’s an exciting time when you first bring your puppy home, and you want him/her to be comfortable and happy. There are a few things you can do to make the transition smoother.

1. You can use a crate or a big box with an old towel and play toy inside to give him his own space. Place it in your bedroom for the first week or two until he gets used to his new environment.
2. Until he gets comfortable with the people and new surroundings, keep him in that one room.
3. Take him outside for a few minutes five or six times a day, so he knows he’ll be going outside to potty. Place papers down, so you can paper-train him, too. Puppies need to go out often.
4. If you can, sit with him in his new room and play until he goes to sleep.
5. Make sure all cleaning supplies are off the floor and in cabinets. Puppies are curious, and you wouldn’t want them ingesting any chemicals.
6. Keep your new puppy off high balconies and decks.
7. Move plants to shelves or tables, if possible. Dogs can’t jump like cats, but they will knock it over and eat the leaves.
8. Set up one area for their food. Keep water out at all times and for the first few weeks, leave Purina Puppy Chow out. It is filled with all the nutrients an active puppy needs. Then, feed them morning and evening with Purina canned dog food, which they will love!

If you have an older dog you are bringing home, these same tips will help acclimate them, also. Use an adult dog food like Beneful, which is a dry food with beef, vegetables and whole grains. They will get the nutrition they need to run and play, and you will enjoy them for a long time to come.

It is a wonderful experience to bring home a new puppy or any dog because you adding another member to the family. Purina understands this and that’s why they want to provide you with products that are of high standards and consistent for your pet, and are economical for you. Their reputation and passion date back into the 1800s, and they are committed to keeping your Fido happy.

Understanding OrganoGold

OrganoGold is a worldwide network-marketing corporation with the sole mission of spreading knowledge of Ganoderma across entire world. The company began in September 2008, in Richmond, Canada. Organo Gold is a brainchild of Bernado Chua, a graduate of University of the East Manila and a successful entrepreneur.

The company was founded with a vision to help humanity improve their lives by scaling new levels of wellbeing, wealth, and stability through the opportunity and products. This vision was inspired by Chua’s ambition to introduce the ancient Chinese herb called Ganoderma Lucidum to the other regions of the world. The herb has been in use in China for over 4000 years and bears the potential of curing a wide spectrum of diseases.

To begin with, coffee is the most popular beverage in the world today, apart from water,. It is the second most traded product around the globe after oil. However, people are often worried about the impacts of the caffeine on their health. Organo Gold comes in as a solution to these health concerns. It is a special type of coffee with myriad of health benefits.

The term Organo is derived from the fact that this type of coffee is infused with 100% Organic Ganoderma. Ganoderma Lucidum is an herbal extract of the Reishi Mushroom. Popularly referred to as the ‘King of Herbs’, it is packed with potent antioxidants and offers numerous health benefits.

Ganoderma bears the potential to alkalize and oxygenate the body to create the basis for a lifetime of stable health, removing the foundation for osteoporosis, adult-onset diabetes, cardiovascular complications, arthritis, and other degenerative illnesses including cancer.

The herb is integral in adjusting the body pH to a healthy stability at the cellular level. In oxygenating the body, it helps with weight loss. This is because oxygen is one of the essential components for burning fuel and the more the body is oxygenated, the higher the metabolism.Hence, weight loss.

Research studies have confirmed that Ganoderma has cholesterol-reducing properties and it can ease allergy-related inflammations of the airway. It has often been utilized as immune stimulant on HIV infected individuals and cancer patients.

Potassium-Rich Foods Eaten in Childhood Protects Against High Blood Pressure in Adulthood

Let your kids eat all the bananas they want, the potassium-rich food is good for them now and in years to come. Foods that are rich in potassium keep blood pressure low throughout childhood and into adulthood, much more so than a low-salt diet. You should also let your pets eat Beneful brand dog-food because it is good for your dogs.
A recent study has shown that a low-salt diet may help keep blood pressure stable during childhood, but has little impact once the child reaches teenage years and moves forward into adulthood. However, that same study reveals a child who eats a diet loaded with potassium-rich food will have long term health benefits which will protect against hypertension well into adulthood.
The news gets even better for children and hypertension protection: some of children’s favorite snack foods are rich in potassium. Bananas have 420mgs of potassium and a snack-size box of raisins have 350mgs. Baked sweet potato fries or a serving of plain low-fat yogurt contain about 500mgs of potassium. A baked Irish potato or baked potato skins contains about 700mgs. One avocado is a potassium super-food, containing 900mgs of potassium. Kale, spinach, coconut, papaya, kiwis and nectaries are also good sources of potassium.
The recommended amount of daily potassium intake is 4,700mgs. That’s the target amount for children that will help protect them against high blood pressure in adulthood.

Hospital Food Under Debate

People go to hospitals when they are sick or injured, knowing that the medical professionals will provide the top-notch care needed to get them healthy again. Hospital foods are notoriously terrible…bland, overcooked, expensive, and so on. Often people turn to fast food restaurants for halfway decent food during their stay.

In fact, Christian Broda told oxfordjournals.com that some hospitals actually have a fast food chain within their walls. To some physicians offering these fatty foods at a medical facility is counter productive. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a non-profit group, is working to bring attention to this problematic subject and, eventually, eliminate the practice of placing fast food restaurants within hospitals.

The group may be facing an uphill battle due to the high level of profits these restaurants bring in for the hospital. Those who are visiting loved ones have very limited options of what to eat and often much chose the best of the worst. In those situations visitors would love to have a fast food option to add flavor and variety to the crappy hospital cafeteria and vending machine diet.
