Multivitamin Supplements: Helpful or Harmful … or Both

The effectiveness of multivitamins is and has been somewhat controversial. Whether or not multivitamins are effective seems to be a never ending debate.

The purpose of the RDA is to assist individuals in ingesting the proper level of vitamins and minerals on a daily basis. The RDA also serves to assist people in avoiding ingesting too much in the way of vitamins and minerals. Taking to much can result in serious health consequences in some cases.

Taking too much in the way of vitamins and minerals can result in body tissue storing these substances to a dangerous level. In other words, too much vitamins and minerals not only has no beneficial effect but can have dangerous consequences.

Before beginning a vitamin and mineral supplement regimen, a person should consult with his or her doctor. Taking this step can work to ensure that no adverse consequences stem from taking supplements.

In the final analysis supplements do not have to become a necessity. Rather, a person is best able to maintain a sound diet and good health through eating a balanced diet that consists of an appropriate combination of health food selections. People who take this course on a daily basis do not need supplements.
