Neurocore And The History Of Neurofeedback

Nowadays, Neurocore is one of the leading authorities on applied neurosciences and they use neurofeedback in much of their research but most people don’t know the history of this field of research dates all the way back to the late 1700’s. That’s when two scientists named Alessandro Volta and Luigi Galvani attempted to study the effects of neurofeedback on a test subject by attaching frog legs to an iron fence and observing the effects of a thunderstorm on it. They discovered that the legs had a tendency to contract whenever lightning streaked across the sky. Nowadays, they’re known as the founders of bioelectric theory and modern electrophysiology and they developed a hypothesis that this contraction was being caused by variations in the electrical current. However, it wasn’t until around 20 years later that they were able to provide evidence that would definitively prove this theory. Their findings and research would eventually lead to the development of what is now known as the electroencephalogram or EEG for short. This technology is most frequently used by Neurocore as they attempt to study the effects of neurofeedback on patients with various neurological disorders. This machine works by attaching small metal disks known as electrodes to the brain and monitoring the electrical currents within the cerebellum. Initially, it was used to diagnose and treat patients who suffer from epilepsy.

However, nowadays, it is more commonly used to treat various neurological disorders such as encephalopathy, brain tumors and many types of sleep disorders. Over a century after it was first discovered, Hans Berger became one of the very first scientists to study the effects of an EEG on a human test subject and he documented his discoveries in his 1929 paper fittingly entitled “About The Human Electroencephalogram.” His innovations and discoveries would eventually pave the way for the development of the quantitative electroencephalogram, more commonly known as Qeeg.
